Since 1974, World Environment Day has been celebrated every year on 5 June, engaging governments, businesses and citizens in an effort to address pressing environmental issues. Happy Earth Day! 🌎⁠⁠ Just one more day until Earth Day 2021!! Ramadan Kareem! Congratulations once again to our poetry competition winner @bhakti_hegde! Over the years, for earth hour, millions of people have switched off our lights at home, turning entire streets, buildings, and city skylines dark - an unmissable sight that drew public attention to nature loss and the climate crisis. This year, join people around the world and switch off your lights in support of nature and our planet today, Saturday, 27 March, 2021 at 8:30pm! Happy World Forest Day and World Poetry Day!! Thank you to all those who submitted their wonderful poems, it was truly lovely to read them all. Unfortunately, we can pick only one winner. Congratulations to 10-year-old Bhakti Hegde, from Delhi Private School in Sharjah, who wrote a fabulous poem titled ‘A Whale’s Cry’ (swipe to read it)! Thank you Bhakti for this fantastic poem, we hope you keep using your talents to inspire others to protect the environment! Thank you to all those who submitted their poems for our competition. We thoroughly enjoyed reading your creative pieces, and will certainly have a hard time choosing a winner. Make sure to keep checking our social media pages for the results. The winner will be announced on Sunday, 21st March 2021, on World Poetry and Forest Day, and contacted via email. It is women who share strong ties with families and communities, and who better understand how to nurture and conserve life. By educating girls and empowering women through leadership and equality, we can mitigate our planet’s greatest challenges, including poverty, inequality, and climate change.
